The project is Canstruction - combining the competitive spirit of a design/build competition with a unique way to help feed hungry people. Competing teams led by architects, engineers, contractors, design professionals, AND me - a yoga instructor - showcase our talents by designing giant sculptures made entirely out of canned foods. At the close of the exhibition, all of the food used in the structures will be donated to the Cleveland Foodbank. In 2009, the participating teams donated more than 21,550 pounds of food and this year’s goal is to increase efforts from last year. Please check out the organizations website, it is truly inspiring! www.canstruction.org See the slide show below to watch the build out of CANDY!
Thank you SPONSORS
Annie's Homegrown has generously donated 90% of the cans required to build our yoga structure (which was 100% of our request). This organization had never heard of Canstruction, did not know Qi Yoga, and is not based in Cleveland. In spite of all of this, the people at Annie's responded quickly and positively - this is truly an organization that lives up to their ideals - AND THEIR FOOD IS DELICIOUS TOO!
Annie’s believe that there’s something reassuring about knowing what’s in your food and who it comes from. As nourishers, we see the world as one giant system, beautifully complex yet intricately interconnected, that grows organically with the care it is given. We nourish communities by providing healthy food, promoting sustainability and supporting organizations motivated by our same intrinsic purpose.
What can I say about Chagrin Yoga? They continue to give back even as they are building their own studio in this "rookie" year. They have donated the funds to purchase the remaining inventory to finish off our structure. Thank you!
Chagrin Yoga is a new, eco-friendly yoga studio located minutes from downtown Chagrin Falls. Our newly constructed and modern studio was designed for people of all ages and abilities and provides a warm and encouraging environment for students to learn and practice yoga. Created by co-owners, Darcy Providente and Robin Peavy to fill a need for yoga in Chagrin Falls, we opened our doors in November of 2009.
Chagrin Yoga offers classes in a variety of yoga styles taught by seasoned yoga instructors. Our studio is clean, warm and supportive and we are committed to making our studio safe for our students as well as the environment.
